Mzwakhe has a wealth of experience in stockbroking, trading, sales and management in both the domestic and international financial services industries, including hedge funds, pension funds and third-party funds. He has key business relationships within the investment industry and business in general.
He is the principal and founder of Smith Barney Capital (SBC), an investment holding company. An SBC-led consortium acquired a majority shareholding in Khumo Securities, which previously traded under the name of Genesis Securities, in 2018. Before establishing SBC, Mzwakhe filled trading and management positions at several private sector companies, including Vunani Securities, Kagiso Securities and Investec. In 2009, he was seconded to the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) office in London for investment banking. He was invited to serve on the Trading and Advisory Committee (TAC) of the JSE in 2011.
Mzwakhe currently serves as non-executive Chairman of Africa Collective Investments (ACI) – a unit trust management company registered with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority – and a member of the ACI’s Audit and Risk Committee. He is also a member of the 27four Umbrella Fund Board of Trustees, director of various companies, and member of the Institute of Directors (IoD) SA.
Mzwakhe holds a BSc in Economics and Mathematics from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the Gordon Institute of Business Sciences (GIBS) at the University of Pretoria.
When not in the office, Mzwakhe is an avid reader, cyclist and golf enthusiast. He is married and the father of twin boys, Philasande and Mnqobi.
